WHAT THE HECK AM I DOIN WITH ALL THESE DOOHICKEYS

Hi there. My name is Possum. I'm a weirdo who can't stop making music to save her fucking life. At time of writing, I play in three different bands around the Rocky Mountains, everything from Ska to Metal to Psych to Punk to Folk and every combination thereof. I also have a tendency to shift my focus obsessively on a new thing every once in a while, and that's how I started making effects pedals.

At first I was just going to order a fuzz face kit to dip my toes in the water, then after scouring forums and youtube videos and html site after html site, I realized I could just order all the parts for a different circuit for cheaper. After populating a breadboard with a bazz fuss and running my bass through it, it was like a whole new world of musical experimentation and expression opened up. I started swapping out components to see how they would affect the sound, and after night after night of experimentation, I had in my hands the exact kind of fuzz I was looking for. I housed it up, threw a big ol possum on the front, and took it to practice. My first pedal, CHONK, had been born.

I was enthralled. It felt like all of my little obsessions, skills, and talents could be cultivated through this new endeavor. From designing the graphics on on the front, to machining and painting the aluminum enclosures by hand, to the focus and dexterity needed to solder so many little components, to the joys of experiementation in finding new ways to play my music, and eventually seeing the excitement in my friends faces when they find that the things that I was making helped them further express through their music as well. This shit is fucking magic. Not to mention I feel like a witch deciphering ancient runes whenever I analyze a schematic.

At the moment, I am just trying to make the kind of sounds that I'm looking for, that I haven't seen in the effects world just yet. I'm also learning all of this as I go, and the liberation of experimentation is making my head swim in the best way. I am having so much fucking fun.

At the end of January of 2024, I quit my job working for a soul-devouring hellhole to focus on making pedal effects. By the end of February I was able to pay my rent. That's gotta mean I'm doing something right, and I intend to follow this journey wherever it takes me. I hope that we all get to take this journey together ᘛ⁐̤ᕐᐷ
